Newcastle Newborn Photographer | Sawyer

One week overdue and needing to be induced despite his mamma’s best efforts to get things moving, little Sawyer was in no rush to leave his cozy womb and meet his “quickly growing impatient” family.  When he finally arrived he arrived fast and has been loved and doted on ever since.  I think you call it… love at first sight!

So who does Sawyer look like? With his perfect lips and chubby cheeks, he is the spitting image of his Daddy (not a look in for mum, again!) and his cheeky, sweet little personality is already starting to shine through. Let’s also not forget that he has a smile that could (and will) melt hearts! Sawyer truly is an adorable little man.

Adored by big bro, loved on by mummy and daddy and slotting right into the family, the introduction of Sawyer into this gorgeous family has been an enjoyable one.  Yes there is sleep deprivation and maybe Elias can get carried away with the bear hugs for his little brother,  but slowly these wonderful people are growing, loving and discovering what it is like to become a family of four.   I’m so truly blessed to have had the opportunity to photograph the newest little person in their lives.

Carla, please tell us about Sawyer in your own words. He is absolutely perfect! Just like his big brother. You wonder how you can love someone as much as you love your first born, then all of a sudden your heart grows and it is love at first sight all over again!! I could spend hours staring into his beautiful eyes or watching him sleeping contently.

How did you come up with his name? Being a huge name person, I was always looking at names. We both like names a little unusual, but nothing too crazy. Not knowing the sex of the baby we were still discussing names on the way to the hospital, but Sawyer was a name we came across early in the pregnancy and were both pretty set on for a boy. Suits him perfectly and we just love it.  The meaning of Sawyer is “woodcutter” It is a relatively common surname and has a literary feel to it, as usually thought of in relation to Tom Sawyer.

From pregnancy, to labour, to the little bundle you now hold in your arms, has this experience been everything you hoped and dreamed it would be or has it been the total opposite?  Apart from the late arrival, I have had a absolutely amazing pregnancy, labour and newborn experience!! Would definitely go back and do it all again. Although my husband is not so sure about that…and he didn’t even have to do any of the hard stuff!!!  Gavin is absolutely amazing!!! A huge support and couldn’t have gotten through it all without him. Definitely not looking forward to him going back to work!!

Without further ado, meet Sawyer…

From Carla…

Thank you so much Renee!! Your patience and professionalism is amazing! Trying to get two little ones to behave and perform in front of the camera is a daunting task, but you made it a relaxed and fun experience. Resulting in some absolutely stunning images that I am so happy to display proudly on my wall.

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Lola]

Sweet, delicate, quiet Lola. Her mum says she is soft, engaging and divine.  Her dad describes her as cheeky, beautiful and perfect. So, so little and so, so loved.  Pure joy!  You may remember Renee’s introduction to Lola from a previous blog post.  Well now we get to know a little bit more about Lola now that she is a few weeks old and how this new little family is coming along.

I asked Renee to tell us about Lola in her own words:

Lola is sweet, she is delicate and she is quiet. She is cuddly and she is happy. She is just pure joy. All of her features are so fine and sometimes I feel scared to move her in case she breaks! She is incredibly soft and her back and ears are still covered in the softest downy hair. She smells a lot like fabric softener – generally because her outfits don’t get much chance to smell like anything but.

What is your favorite part of Lola, and why?

My favourite parts of Lola are the soft downy hair on her ear lobes and the peeling bits of skin on her feet. It reminds me how little and new she is.

Who does Lola most look like?

She has my face shape, skin and lips, which makes everyone think she looks just like me. I must admit our baby pictures are extremely similar. I look a little deeper though and see Dean’s big stormy eyes and his slightly turned up nose. A perfect mix!

How did you come up with her name, Lola May?

Lola was the first name on our girls list and the one we couldn’t go past in the end. It had that lovely mix of classic and cool. Grandma’s love it as it is ‘from their generation’ and it is one of those names that has been gone long enough to come back again. For us it sounded like the name of a happy, cheeky, easy going girl. It’s a Spanish name meaning ‘strong woman’.
Her middle name, May, Is after her Great Nanna Beverly.  It is Latin and means ‘great’

Any advice for new parents?

Stop, breathe, smile and enjoy. The moments fly by, so drink them in as you can’t get them back.

Did Lola arrive when you expected her to?

Lola was 5 days late, but was born on the day we had hoped she would arrive. We thought Sunday afternoon would be a nice, quiet time to arrive at hospital and we were right!

How did Dean help you through this whole experience?

Dean was incredible during labour, from waking up and speedily packing the bags in the car right through to delivering Lola, handing her to me and cutting her cord at 10pm on the 5/8/12. He kept my hydrated and was there for me to lean against during every single contraction. I think he feels like he didn’t really do much, but his contribution was way more important than he will ever know.

Was there anything that you were told would happen when baby arrived that you didn’t believe at the time but do now?

I was told to choose one thing to do each day and be happy if you can achieve it. I figured I could do at least 3 – babies sleep all day right? No so… today I had a shower!

In the short time Lola has been here she has already taught her mum and dad many important lessons.  How to love stronger, trust your instincts more, enjoy every moment and poo explosions will occur around 2am so be prepared!  Lola loves having her arms free, [especially the left] doesn’t like to rush off to sleep and is extremely alert and wanting to be a part of everything that’s going on around her.

This whole experience for Renee and Dean has been everything they had hoped for…and more.  They had no expectations and no idea what to expect, so it has been a pleasant surprise to have one tiny little human bring so much joy and love into their home.  Lola is a cherished addition to their lives and I just know together the three of them will enjoy wonderful experiences and unforgettable moments together.

Lola…

Newcastle Photographer [The Fernando Family]

We returned to try to capture Mali at 18months as perfectly as Renee did for Suraiya at the same age. He is entirely cheeky, loud & a very cuddly boy, who loves a ball, any instrument that can be used as a bat, and playing with Suraiya’s dollhouse. Suraiya is a lot shyer, but incredibly loud once comfortable, full of fun, rides bikes, can’t walk past a swing, and loves exploring (as long as Mali goes first) and loves to care for her little brother.

We ended up with a collection of images that captured us all as a unit, and the canvas we chose of Suraiya & Mali together with her trying to ‘crocodile snap’ him while he cracks up captures them both and our life at home at the moment completely – boisterous; a constant policing of the on the fine line between fun and being naughty; LOUD [always loud!!] and abounding in love and joy (while in the background I am pulling my hair out).

They have a total love/compete relationship, they are each others world. We know we are so blessed to have two gorgeous children, and look forward to surviving the rest of the toddler/preschool years together!

Newcastle Family Photographer [Corrigan Family]

As far as two year old go, Misha is your normal happy, mischievous, loveable little munchkin.  She likes to control the tv remote (ABC kids of course!), has an incredible talent for creating her very own “Once upon a time” stories and the enviable skill of playing a recorder with her nose.  What a talented little miss!

Together Allyson, Michael and Misha spend their time at the park, on the beach or watching ABC kids, over and over and over again.  So much so that when asked to describe what cartoon characters they are most like, there was no hesitation in claiming the roles of a Peppa Pig Episode.   Misha is Peppa Pig, Allyson is Mummy Pig and Michael, well he describes himself as Mr Bull.  All grumbles on the surface but a devoted loving dad underneath.  This is evident by the fact that Michael actually took it upon himself to organise this photo session as a Mothers Day Gift for Allyson!

One day this family dreams of jetting off to Thailand with mum and dad introducing Misha to surroundings full of sunshine, happiness, colour, beauty and fabulous restuarants.  I have no doubt that when they do finally get there, this little Peppa Pig will embrace the fun and continue to amuse and entertain her new friends with her infectious giggle and cheeky little personality.

I asked Allyson to share one of her funniest family memories.

Oh this is hard, there have been so many…  Something that stands out though is that every day, without fail, Misha wakes up and tells us we are a different animal or character – so for example this morning I said, “Good morning beautiful,” and she said “Good morning Mummy Orca, I’m Baby Orca and you’re Daddy Orca.” She loves the Octonauts – other mornings we are monkeys, elephants etc, but my favourite one is when we are princesses because she calls Michael Daddy Princess then cracks herself up laughing at her joke

I’m just so happy I was able to photograph these guys for a third (and hopefully not last) time.  These photos are whimsical, magical and fun, and I love that we could use the red capes to incorporate the images into Misha’s Red Riding Hood themed bedroom and that we were able to use Rach from Sapphire Designs and her fabulous floral design skills in some of the shots.  Sessions such as these are some of my favourites.  I’m pretty sure you’ll love it too!

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Audrey]

It all began with a friends wedding. Then an engagement shoot.  Then there was a wedding, and now…Audrey.

Little Audrey.

She personifies beauty not only with her name but also with her round pink cheeks, pouty lips, button nose and golden hair.  It was an honour and a total pleasure to be able to capture her beauty just as I previously have her Mummy and Daddy, way back when they were a family of two.

Audrey was a name that was always loved for its old fashion feel and uniqueness.  Audrey’s middle name, Jane, has been inherited from a long list of Jane’s.  Grandma, Nanna and Audrey’s Mum all share the name, so it only seemed fitting to pass it on to the new little girl in their lives.

Now some would say Audrey’s arrival was three days early, while others insist she was one day late.  Whatever the case, she arrived to a doting mummy and daddy and will now forever fill their lives with all that is special and wonderful.  While being undecided on the whole being wrapped thing, this sweet baby girl does know that she LOVES to feed and sleep on her side.  She’s sweet, beautiful, angelic and a perfect mix of her mum and dad combined.

Meet Audrey…

A little angel indeed…. with her mummy’s pout…. thanks for sharing with us this beauty that will easily live up to the expectations of such a gorjuss name Audrey xxx.

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Tate]

Our piece of perfect.  This is how Shaye and Jesse describe their new baby boy Tate.  It’s quite appropriate I think because as you can see by the images below, or if you have ever met him in real life, Tate is pretty perfect.  Beautiful skin, an irresistible wrinkly forehead, long eyelashes and long fingers.  Tate is, in his dads words, Amazing!

Shaye and Jesse had Tate’s name chosen for a few years previous to his arrival.  It appealed to them as it was strong, uncommon and has a meaning of “cheerful”.

When asked how she felt about the whole pregnancy to labour to birth experience Shaye is nothing but positive…

“I loved every minute, from the moment I found out till when Tate arrived.  I had a really good pregnancy and I’m pretty thankful for that.  I also loved the labour from start to finish. It was such a special time I shared with Jesse.”

So now Tate is here and his little personality is developing.  He has is daddy’s appetite, he’s a wonderful sleeper (although 2am seems to be party central in Tate’s world) and he loves to be wrapped up and cuddled.  He absolutely loves affection of any kind.

Jesse and Shaye have learnt to enjoy the “quiet time” when Tate is sleeping.  As for the nights, well Jesse is a trooper and always makes sure Tate has a clean nappy and a warm bottle.  Together these three gorgeous individuals are a happy, adorable family unit and it was such a joyful experience to work with them.

So here’s Tate…  a little piece of perfect.

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Axle]

Axle… a big bouncing baby boy!   9lb, and 56cm of squishy goodness.  Perfect from his chunky cheeks to his button nose and long skinny feet.  He may have made his mum, dad and big sister wait 5 days past his due date to finally get to meet him, but the wait was well and truly worth it.  This little man (ok, maybe not so little) with a strong name and a doting big sis, is really a huge softy.  He loves his cuddles and snuggling and sleeping is what he does best.  Axle is the highlight of Syvannah’s every day,  and most mornings are spent smothering him in kisses and wrapping him in love.

Pregnancy for Erin was a lot different this time.  With Axle being such a large baby things were a little more uncomfortable.  Add to that a lively toddler to chase around and it can get somewhat exhausting!  The joy that this little man brings with him makes that all seem a distant memory now and Erin says she wouldn’t change a thing.

Meet the “BIG” little man Axle.

introducing Lola May

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting 11 day old Lola May last week and her mum Renee, who has written some feature posts for me in the past, wrote this brief intro for me to share here with a few images…

Lola is the most beautiful, easy going, precious and delicate thing we have ever seen.

She joined our now family of three on Sunday 5th August, after many false alarms and a number of trips to the hospital. Labour began at 5:30am, with strong contractions coming about 8 mins apart. Given the number of false alarms we had over the last few weeks, we really dismissed them, expecting them to fizzle out and planned to make our usual trip to the Newcastle Farmers Markets for a wander and a coffee. Needless to say, that plan did not last long as contractions quickly became stronger and closer together throughout the morning.

I don’t think we really ever discussed the fact that ‘this was it’ – I think we both just realised it in our own time. Dean swung into action, packing the car with our prepared bags so we could be out the door in a moments notice and madly cleaning the house (it must have been the nerves?) between my contractions.

After attending Fit-4-2 Pilates throughout my pregnancy, I planned to use my beloved fitball during labour. Turns out I needn’t have spent so much time agonising over the best rocking movements and positions – I spent almost my entire labour on my feet and leaning on Dean, as doing anything else was unbearable. All 16 hours.

At 4pm, contractions suddenly hit the 2 minute mark, so we jumped into the car (well, I waddled) and drove to the hospital. I had always pictured us parking in the emergency drop off and being wheeled up to delivery in a panic, Hollywood style. Instead, we calmly parked the car, walked through the hospital entrance and up to delivery, before being shown to a birthing suite. All very civilized really.

By 9pm, it was time to push, then at 10:01pm Dean delivered, then handed me the most tiny, incredible, delicate, beautiful and fragile little girl I had ever seen. Lola May – otherwise known as Lola Bear (for the cutest little growling noise she makes when hungry), Little B, Lolly or Bump (which Dean can’t seem to stop calling her).

We have now spent 17 days getting to know her and they have been the 17 most incredible days of my life. Her little smile lights up my heart so completely and Dean and I have never been so in love – both with her and each other.

She has been wonderful and we are settling into life as parents, doing things as we always have – together – just with more luggage, organisation and nappies. She absolutely loves walks in her pram and we try and take her out every day. She sleeps well and feeds well – but sometimes tries to do both things at once. She doesn’t like getting her outfit changed much, which is unfortunate – for her as she requires outfit changes up to four times each day and for me as I love dressing her in different things! Settling takes a lot of time and patience as she is so alert and just loves to take things in. Her eyes will slowly drift closed, before you move an inch and one eye opens to stare at you…

Lola is without doubt our proudest and most wonderful achievement. We can’t wait to see what each and every day with her brings.

Lola May Mantle 3.49kg, born at 10.01pm Sun 5th Aug.

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Kayleigh]

Kayleigh … meaning boomerang. A name chosen in keeping with her father’s aboriginal heritage.

She is the most beautiful person in her parent’s life. Soft, cuddly and excitingly “new” this gorgeous girl with amazing eyes and chubby cheeks is now their world!

Kayleigh arrived early after many, many bumpy car drives. Throughout the labour Jeremy was Alex’s rock. Massaging, speaking words of encouragement, hand holding and sharing tears of joy. Now this new little family spend their time sleeping when Kayleigh sleeps and enjoying watching her observe this new word she has arrived in, all the while with a smile on her face. She truly is a chubby, cheeky little bundle of happiness.

meet Kayleigh, 7 weeks old!

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Evelyn]

From belly to birth in a series of photos.  This is how we introduce you to Evelyn.   So tiny, so delicate, so perfect.  There are so many words to describe this gorgeous girl but I think the most appropriate word is “loved”.  The name Evelyn means “life” and this Evelyn was in fact named after her grandmother.  In a hurry to leave the warm comfort of her mamas belly, Evelyn arrived eleven days before her due date and quickly fulfilled every dream and hope her parents had for her.  Perfect in every single way and I’m sure adored by her big brother Ethan, baby Evelyn has quickly found her place in this wonderful little family.  Here she is… Evelyn

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Beau]

Fair hair,  blue eyes, a button nose and the cutest little mouth one ever did see.  Beau is most definitely a handsome little guy which is kinda apt,  because in French the name Beau actually means “handsome”.  Beau came into the world bottom first and a few weeks early and hasn’t stopped surprising his parents ever since!  Every day he does something new and while he may be happy and laid back, he’s also a mover and a shaker with his constant wriggling arms and legs. Crystal and Clint adore everything about their new little man but when they had to pick one thing that just makes them melt they said, “his big sparkling blue eyes.  They just light up and show so much personality already!”  I just love how when asked to describe their baby boy in three words this wonderful new mum and dad don’t even have to think about it before the reply with the words,  “A dream come true.” (ok,  that’s technically four words but we can make allowances for that)  I think it’s safe to say they’re besotted and rightfully so.   I think the with the love his parents have for him,  this little guy has many wonderful adventures and experiences in his future,  but for now he is content to eat, sleep, wriggle and pee on everyone the moment his nappy is removed.  Oh what a life!

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Willem]

Willem…a champion in name.  really.  That’s what the name Willem means and this little fella most certainly is one.  Fourth child, second son, last baby.  Special in so many ways.  Teaching his family that every minute of every day is so very important,  Willem is being smothered with love and affection from those who adore him most.  He’s a party animal at night, loves his hands to be free and has acquired a very loud cry.  That’s ok though because he is his mum’s little gumnut baby and to her the best thing in the world is holding, sleeping with and staring at her little man.

A real little champion… Willem

Newcastle Newborn Photographer [Olivia]

“she is beautiful. i can’t stop looking at her or cuddling her. her skin is so soft and she smells so absolutely perfect”– Jen [new mummy to Olivia]

Olivia is here! I think we’re all a little bit excited about the arrival of this bubba girl. I’m sure you’ll remember her parents sunset maternity shoot well. Boy it seems like only yesterday and already Jen and Brendan are moving on to the next step of this amazing journey.

Now two has become three and I’m sure these guys feel like all their christmas days have come at once. A perfect combination of the two people that cherish her most in this world, Olivia has mum’s nose and eyes and dad’s cowlick (she’ll be cursing him for that when she gets older, I’m sure!) Olivia entered the world the day after her due date in an unplanned c-section birth, but when Jen woke to the site of Brendan cuddling their precious baby girl, all that was forgotten. Since then this gorgeous girl has been charming her parents with her perfection. Jen says that people told her that you can’t describe how much you love your children, because there’s just no words for feelings that strong. She now knows they’re right and admits that she never ever imagined loving someone this much. Olivia is her everything!

So now things run on Olivia’s schedule and Jen and Brendan are perfectly fine with that. As long as they have their super feeding, awesome sleeping, cuddly little sweetheart with them, nothing else matters!

meet Olivia…
